It is becoming more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making cars or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a better item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to make a good, high quality item and to make it of high value to your buyers. The producers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can raise profits and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When workers are sitting around, idle and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are unused and are in effect merely wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting unused. What is the point of having a expensive mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more jobs actually be done without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of parts because you may need it. If you are not using it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the development and profit of the company. It can be difficult to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is named adapting and pushing forward.
