It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a better item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many people and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to produce a superior, high quality part and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The makers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the customer prepared to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term method that can boost profits and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are process issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can produce. When employees are hanging around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their area, they are not productive. They are unused and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting quiet. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you may need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thefirm. It can be difficult to admit that getting that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to push forward and realize something that does. It is called adapting and pushing ahead.
