It is getting more and tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a better product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to make a first-rate, high value product and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The producers of the parts do not decide what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the buyer willing to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term method that can raise profits and keep your company working lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the quantity that you can make. When workers are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not productive. They are idle and are in essence merely wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines standing quiet. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of equipment that will be more productive? What about the area that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you may need it. If you are not using it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be uncomfortable to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move on and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and going forward.
