It is getting much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior item? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to build a superior, high quality product and to make it of high value to your clients. The builders of the parts do not establish what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can boost revenue and keep your business working lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your organization. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process issues that can directly affect the end product and how many you can make. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not producing. They are idle and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting unused. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the room that the machine is taking up, could another work area be put there and more work actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you may want it. If you are not making use of it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the growth and profit of theorganization. It can be difficult to admit that buying that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and going forward.
