It is becoming much tougher to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building baseball bats or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many buyers and companies. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to make a good, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The builders of the product do not decide what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the buyer willing to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your goods.
You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase earnings and keep your company running lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all areas of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are process issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can make. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not producing. They are unused and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more productive? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work station be put there and more work actually be done without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of parts because you might need it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be hard to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help grow the company, then it is time to push forward and find something that does. It is called adapting and going forward.
