It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a better product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to produce a good, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your clients. The producers of the items do not determine what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the buyer ready to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your product.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can increase revenue and keep your organization operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your organization. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every business more money than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process problems that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can produce. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not productive. They are unused and are in essence just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines being idle. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more productive? What about the space that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with parts because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and moving forward.
