It is getting much tougher to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to build a first-rate, high quality product and to make it of high value to your customers. The producers of the items do not establish what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer prepared to pay for your part and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to boost your revenue for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term method that can increase earnings and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more revenue than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are procedure problems that can directly have an effect on the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When workers are sitting around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in effect just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work station be put there and more work actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thebusiness. It can be difficult to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help grow the company, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and pushing forward.
