It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the goal is to make a superior, high quality product and to make it of high value to your customers. The builders of the items do not establish what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your part and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to boost your profit for your product.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can boost revenue and keep your company running lean and efficiently. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly influence the end product and how many you can make. When employees are sitting around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being idle. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the room that the machine is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you may need it. If you are not using it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is called adapting and pushing ahead.
