It is becoming more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many people and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to produce a superior, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your customers. The builders of the items do not determine what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the customer willing to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can increase revenue and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process issues that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not producing. They are unused and are in effect just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines being idle. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you may need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be tricky to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to push on and discover something that does. It is named adapting and pushing ahead.
