It is getting more and harder to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a better product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a superior, high quality part and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The builders of the items do not establish what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can raise revenue and keep your company working lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not producing. They are unused and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you may want it. If you are not making use of it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be uncomfortable to admit that purchasing that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help grow the business, then it is time to move on and discover something that does. It is called adapting and pushing forward.
