It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a superior, high quality item and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The producers of the product do not determine what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the consumer prepared to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can increase profits and keep your company working lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every business more revenue than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a expensive automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more jobs actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of thebusiness. It can be hard to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit build the company, then it is time to push on and discover something that does. It is called adapting and going forward.
