It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are building baseball bats or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to make a superior, high value product and to make it of high value to your customers. The producers of the product do not decide what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the customer willing to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to boost your earnings for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can raise revenue and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method issues that can directly influence the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect merely wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you may need it. If you are not making use of it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of thefirm. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and going ahead.
