It is becoming more and tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a better product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to make a good, high value product and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The makers of the items do not establish what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the consumer prepared to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to raise your profit for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can raise earnings and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your company. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When workers are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not producing. They are unused and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a fancy automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the equipment is taking up, could another work station be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of something because you may need it. If you are not making use of it or it is outdated, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and moving ahead.
