It is getting much harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to make a superior, high quality item and to make it of high worth to your clients. The builders of the items do not decide what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your profit for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase profits and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are process issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not producing. They are idle and are in essence simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the area that the equipment is filling, could another work area be put there and more work actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of the company. It can be tricky to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is named adapting and going ahead.
