It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are building motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to make a superior, high quality part and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The makers of the product do not establish what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to boost your revenue for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can increase earnings and keep your business working lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your business. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process concerns that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When workers are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not productive. They are idle and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be finished without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of something because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of theorganization. It can be hard to admit that buying that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is called adapting and moving ahead.
