It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing cars or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many people and companies. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to make a first-rate, high value product and to make it of high worth to your clients. The makers of the parts do not establish what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer willing to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can increase revenue and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are procedure issues that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are sitting around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be completed without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with parts because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is outdated, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the growth and profit of thebusiness. It can be hard to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to move on and discover something that does. It is called adapting and pushing ahead.
