It is getting more and harder to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a superior product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many consumers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to make a good, high value part and to make it of high value to your clients. The makers of the parts do not decide what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer prepared to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your product.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase profits and keep your organization operating lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can make. When workers are loafing around, idle and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not useful. They are unused and are in essence simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is taking up, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be completed without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with tools because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the growth and profit of thefirm. It can be difficult to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to push forward and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and pushing forward.
