It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are building cars or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the goal is to build a good, high value item and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The makers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your product.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can increase earnings and keep your organization running lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are process issues that can directly influence the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When workers are sitting around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the room that the machine is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you might want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be tricky to admit that buying that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and going forward.
