It is becoming much tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are producing baseball bats or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a good, high quality part and to make it of high value to your customers. The producers of the items do not decide what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the customer willing to pay for your product and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your product.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can raise revenue and keep your company working lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are procedure problems that can directly affect the end product and how many you can make. When workers are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting unused. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more productive? What about the area that the equipment is taking up, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be done without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that equipment was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and pushing forward.
