It is becoming more and harder to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building baseball bats or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a superior part? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to make a superior, high value product and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The makers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ value; the consumer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can increase revenue and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method concerns that can directly influence the end product and how many you can produce. When employees are loafing around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being idle. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more jobs actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of parts because you might need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the development and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to push on and find something that does. It is named adapting and moving forward.
