It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a better item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to build a good, high quality part and to make it of high value to your buyers. The producers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your part and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your profit for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can raise earnings and keep your organization running lean and efficient. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your business. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure concerns that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can make. When workers are sitting around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be finished without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you might need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of theorganization. It can be difficult to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is named adapting and pushing forward.
