It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to build a good, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The producers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your profit for your product.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can increase earnings and keep your organization running lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your company. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are process problems that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can produce. When employees are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their area, they are not useful. They are unused and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with parts because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thefirm. It can be tricky to admit that buying that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to push on and discover something that does. It is named adapting and moving forward.
