It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a better product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to build a superior, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your clients. The builders of the product do not establish what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase revenue and keep your organization running lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When workers are sitting around, idle and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are idle and are in essence simply wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the room that the equipment is taking up, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be completed without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you may want it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the growth and profit of thefirm. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is named adapting and moving ahead.
