It is becoming much harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are building motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a better part? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to build a superior, high value product and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The builders of the product do not establish what they makes’ value; the consumer does. What is the buyer ready to pay for your service and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can raise earnings and keep your company operating lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method concerns that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the growth and profit of thebusiness. It can be hard to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to push forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and going ahead.
