It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making cars or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to produce a good, high value part and to make it of high worth to your customers. The makers of the parts do not decide what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer ready to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to boost your earnings for your product.
You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can increase revenue and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your company. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are procedure concerns that can directly have an effect on the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are loafing around, idle and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not useful. They are idle and are in essence simply wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting quiet. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the area that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of parts because you may need it. If you are not using it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of the company. It can be uncomfortable to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is named adapting and moving forward.
