It is getting much tougher to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing cars or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are making a superior item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many people and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to make a superior, high quality product and to make it of high value to your buyers. The makers of the product do not determine what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the buyer prepared to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can boost profits and keep your business working lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process problems that can directly influence the end product and how many you can make. When workers are loafing around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in effect simply wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting unused. What is the point of having a expensive mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the room that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with tools because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be difficult to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and pushing forward.
