It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are building cars or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a better product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the goal is to produce a superior, high value product and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The makers of the product do not establish what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase profits and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method concerns that can directly influence the end product and how many you can make. When employees are loafing around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their area, they are not producing. They are under used and are in essence just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of equipment that will be more productive? What about the room that the machine is filling, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be finished without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you might need it. If you are not using it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of the company. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is called adapting and going forward.
