It is becoming more and more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to produce a superior, high value part and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The builders of the product do not decide what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.
You can always raise the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a longer term method that can raise earnings and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your company. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method concerns that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When workers are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not productive. They are idle and are in essence just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work station be put there and more jobs actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you might need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of theorganization. It can be hard to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is called adapting and going ahead.
