It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are building cars or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior part? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to build a superior, high quality item and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The producers of the parts do not determine what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the buyer ready to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your goods.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase earnings and keep your company running lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are method issues that can directly affect the end product and how many you can produce. When workers are sitting around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are unused and are in essence just wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of parts because you might want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the growth and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that machine was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and moving forward.
