It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are building motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a better part? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to build a first-rate, high value item and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The makers of the product do not determine what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the consumer prepared to pay for your product and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your goods.
You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can raise revenue and keep your organization working lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method concerns that can directly influence the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When workers are sitting around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are unused and are in essence simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing quiet. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of equipment that will be more productive? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you might need it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of theorganization. It can be hard to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and going forward.
