It is becoming more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making cars or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are making a superior product? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to make a good, high value part and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The builders of the items do not establish what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer prepared to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase revenue and keep your business running lean and efficient. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are process concerns that can directly affect the end product and how many you can produce. When employees are sitting around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more productive? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more work actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of something because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thefirm. It can be difficult to admit that purchasing that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit build the company, then it is time to push forward and find something that does. It is titles adapting and pushing ahead.
