It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are building motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many consumers and companies. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to make a good, high quality product and to make it of high value to your buyers. The builders of the items do not decide what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to boost your revenue for your product.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can boost profits and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all areas of your organization. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every company more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When workers are hanging around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in essence simply wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the area that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you may want it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of theorganization. It can be difficult to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to move on and find something that does. It is named adapting and going forward.
