It is becoming more and tougher to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a superior item? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many people and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to build a first-rate, high value item and to make it of high worth to your customers. The makers of the product do not determine what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to boost your revenue for your goods.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can raise earnings and keep your business running lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your organization. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more money than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure issues that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can make. When workers are sitting around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a fancy automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the area that the machine is taking up, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of the company. It can be uncomfortable to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and going ahead.
