It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better item? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many buyers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to make a good, high quality product and to make it of high value to your buyers. The producers of the items do not decide what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can boost profits and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method problems that can directly influence the end product and how many you can produce. When workers are hanging around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are unused and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more labor actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you might want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the development and profit of thefirm. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that machine was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to push forward and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and going ahead.
