It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are building hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a better item? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many people and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to make a first-rate, high value product and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The producers of the product do not decide what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the customer prepared to pay for your product and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can raise profits and keep your business working lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are process issues that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their area, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect merely wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the area that the equipment is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more work actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the growth and profit of theorganization. It can be hard to admit that getting that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move forward and find something that does. It is named adapting and going forward.
