It is getting much harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to make them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a first-rate, high quality product and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The producers of the items do not establish what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the buyer willing to pay for your item and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to boost your profit for your product.
You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can increase revenue and keep your business operating lean and efficient. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your business. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure problems that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can make. When employees are loafing around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their area, they are not producing. They are unused and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you might need it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be difficult to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and find something that does. It is called adapting and going ahead.
