It is getting much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are building cars or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior part? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to build a superior, high value part and to make it of high value to your clients. The makers of the parts do not decide what they makes’ value; the customer does. What is the customer prepared to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to boost your earnings for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can raise earnings and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all aspects of your company. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every organization more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are method issues that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are idle and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work spot be put there and more labor actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you may need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thebusiness. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to move on and find something that does. It is titles adapting and going ahead.
