It is getting much tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing baseball bats or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a superior item? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is strange and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a superior, high quality item and to make it of high worth to your potential customers. The producers of the items do not decide what they makes’ value; the consumer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your product and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to boost your earnings for your goods.
You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can boost profits and keep your company operating lean and efficient. It all begins with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When workers are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in effect just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the space that the machine is taking up, could another work station be put there and more jobs actually be done without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you might want it. If you are not using it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be uncomfortable to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to move forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and going forward.
