It is becoming more and tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a superior item? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many people and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to make a first-rate, high value part and to make it of high value to your customers. The producers of the product do not establish what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the customer willing to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can boost revenue and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all aspects of your company. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every company more money than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method concerns that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can make. When workers are hanging around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not producing. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the process by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more industrious? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work area be put there and more jobs actually be done without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of tools because you might need it. If you are not making use of it or it is old, then it is taking up valuable space and not contributing to the growth and profit of the company. It can be uncomfortable to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the business, then it is time to push forward and find something that does. It is called adapting and moving ahead.
