It is getting much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing baseball bats or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior part? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many buyers and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to build a good, high value item and to make it of high value to your buyers. The producers of the product do not decide what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the buyer ready to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can boost revenue and keep your organization operating lean and efficient. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all areas of your business. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every business more money than they would care to admit. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When employees are sitting around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not producing. They are idle and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being unused. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the machine is taking up, could another work station be put there and more jobs actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with parts because you might want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the expansion and profit of theorganization. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t assit build the business, then it is time to move forward and find something that does. It is named adapting and pushing forward.
