It is becoming much harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are building hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to make them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to make a superior, high quality part and to make it of high value to your clients. The makers of the parts do not decide what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the customer ready to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your profit for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can boost earnings and keep your organization operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your company. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every business more revenue than they would care to disclose. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it could mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method concerns that can directly have an effect on the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not producing. They are idle and are in effect merely wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting idle. What is the point of having a costly mechanized machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the room that the equipment is taking up, could another work station be put there and more labor actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that getting that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the business, then it is time to push on and realize something that does. It is named adapting and pushing forward.
