It is getting much tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are building a better part? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to produce a good, high value part and to make it of high worth to your customers. The producers of the product do not decide what they makes’ worth; the buyer does. What is the buyer willing to pay for your part and how big of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can raise profits and keep your business operating lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the painting department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are procedure concerns that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can produce. When workers are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not producing. They are idle and are in essence simply wasting money and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting quiet. What is the point of having a fancy mechanized machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more cost effective to do the job by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the machine is taking up, could another work spot be put there and more jobs actually be done without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with tools because you may need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of theorganization. It can be uncomfortable to admit that buying that machine was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to push forward and realize something that does. It is titles adapting and moving forward.
