It is getting much harder to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all exist in. Whether you are producing motorcycles or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a better part? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the goal is to build a first-rate, high quality product and to make it of high value to your customers. The makers of the product do not determine what they makes’ value; the buyer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your product and how big of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your earnings for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term way that can raise revenue and keep your company working lean and efficient. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes innumerous forms and it costs every company more revenue than they would care to disclose. Waste is when employees are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the painting department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure concerns that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are loafing around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are idle and are in essence simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing unused. What is the point of having a costly automated machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more fruitful? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work station be put there and more work actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you might need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of thebusiness. It can be difficult to admit that getting that equipment was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help grow the business, then it is time to move forward and discover something that does. It is called adapting and moving ahead.
