It is becoming more and harder to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many people and businesses. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to make a superior, high quality item and to make it of high value to your buyers. The producers of the items do not decide what they makes’ worth; the consumer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your goods.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term way that can raise profits and keep your company operating lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more revenue than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a vendor. These are process issues that can directly influence the end product and the speed at which you can make. When employees are sitting around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their area, they are not producing. They are idle and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines sitting quiet. What is the point of having a fancy automatic machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of equipment that will be more productive? What about the space that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be finished without the equipment? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of equipment because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thebusiness. It can be hard to admit that getting that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help grow the company, then it is time to push forward and discover something that does. It is called adapting and moving forward.
