It is becoming more and tougher to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are making hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them less expensively and quicker than you. But the question is if they are producing a superior product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is bizarre and regrettable, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many consumers and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to produce a good, high quality product and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The makers of the items do not decide what they makes’ value; the consumer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your product is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your goods.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can boost revenue and keep your business working lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all areas of your company. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be made. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure concerns that can directly affect the end product and how many you can make. When workers are hanging around, unused and waiting for the work to come to their station, they are not productive. They are under used and are in effect simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a expensive automatic machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the robot and purchase a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the machine is filling, could another work spot be put there and more labor actually be finished without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with equipment because you might need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is obsolete, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be difficult to admit that getting that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to move forward and find something that does. It is named adapting and going ahead.
