It is getting more and more difficult to compete in the worldwide marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making cars or widgets, there is someone out there trying to build them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are making a better product? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the product doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the motto and the word of choice for many consumers and businesses. Yes, cheaper is better, but cheaper doesn’t necessarily work out for the best. So the object is to build a good, high quality item and to make it of high value to your potential customers. The producers of the parts do not establish what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the customer willing to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your part is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your product.

You can always elevate the price and pass it off to the buyer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can raise earnings and keep your company running lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every organization more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that does not mean that there aren’t orders to be built. It mightmerely mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a supplier. These are method issues that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are sitting around, unused and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not producing. They are unused and are in effect simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not being run for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the space that the equipment is filling, could another work station be put there and more work actually be completed without the robot? You can’t say that you don’t want to get rid of something because you may want it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the expansion and profit of thefirm. It can be uncomfortable to admit that purchasing that equipment was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help grow the company, then it is time to move forward and find something that does. It is titles adapting and pushing forward.
