It is becoming much more difficult to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making hair dryers or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a superior item? For some consumers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is strange and unfortunate, but cheaper has become the slogan and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, less expensive is better, but cheaper doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to produce a good, high value product and to make it of high worth to your buyers. The producers of the parts do not establish what they makes’ value; the consumer does. What is the consumer ready to pay for your service and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your earnings for your goods.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the customer. But there is a better way, a more long term method that can raise revenue and keep your organization operating lean and efficient. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your company. Waste comes in many forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it could mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure issues that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can produce. When employees are hanging around, inactive and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not productive. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines being quiet. What is the point of having a fancy automated machine if it is not being used for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the process by hand, sell the robot and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the area that the machine is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you may want it. If you are not using it or it is outdated, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be tricky to admit that buying that robot was a bad idea, but if it does not and doesn’t help build the company, then it is time to push on and find something that does. It is named adapting and going forward.
