It is becoming more and tougher to compete in the global marketplace that we all live in. Whether you are producing hair dryers or widgets, there is somebody out there trying to build them less expensively and faster than you. But the question is if they are building a superior product? For some people, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is better even if the part doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many buyers and organizations. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the objective is to make a superior, high value part and to make it of high value to your buyers. The makers of the items do not determine what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the customer prepared to pay for your product and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to increase your revenue for your product.

You can always increase the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a longer term approach that can boost revenue and keep your business working lean and efficiently. It all begins with removing unnecessary waste in all parts of your business. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every business more cash than they would care to confess. Waste is when workers are just hanging around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It might just mean that they are waiting for parts to be completed in the electrical department or it might mean that they are waiting for product from a vendor. These are process concerns that can directly affect the end product and the quantity that you can make. When workers are loafing around, inactive and waiting for the job to come to their station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in effect simply wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a costly automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and buy a piece of machinery that will be more industrious? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work area be put there and more labor actually be completed without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with parts because you might want it. If you are not making use of it or it is outdated, then it is taking up room and not contributing to the growth and profit of theorganization. It can be tricky to admit that purchasing that robot was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t help grow the business, then it is time to move on and realize something that does. It is called adapting and going forward.
