It is becoming more and harder to compete in the global marketplace that we all dwell in. Whether you are making motorcycles or widgets, there is someone out there trying to produce them cheaper and faster than you. But the question is if they are producing a better part? For some buyers, it doesn’t matter, cheaper is good enough even if the item doesn’t last as long. It is weird and regrettable, but cheaper has become the catchphrase and the word of choice for many people and companies. Yes, cheaper is better, but less expensive doesn’t always work out for the best. So the object is to produce a good, high quality product and to make it of high worth to your customers. The makers of the product do not determine what they makes’ worth; the customer does. What is the consumer willing to pay for your item and how much of a demand for your item is there? There are different ways to raise your revenue for your goods.

You can always raise the price and pass it off to the consumer. But there is a better way, a more long term approach that can boost earnings and keep your organization working lean and efficiently. It all starts with eliminating unnecessary waste in all parts of your organization. Waste comes inlots of forms and it costs every organization more revenue than they would care to admit. Waste is when workers are just standing around, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t orders to be filled. It mightsimply mean that they are waiting for parts to be finished in the assembly department or it might mean that they are waiting for parts from a supplier. These are procedure issues that can directly have an effect on the end product and how many you can make. When employees are sitting around, idle and waiting for the work to come to their work station, they are not useful. They are under used and are in essence just wasting cash and time. It is the same when you have machines standing idle. What is the point of having a fancy automatic machine if it is not in use for hours a day? Would it be more efficient to do the job by hand, sell the machine and purchase a piece of equipment that will be more fruitful? What about the room that the equipment is filling, could another work station be put there and more work actually be done without the machine? You can’t say that you don’t want to do away with something because you may need it. If you are not utilizing it or it is old, then it is taking up space and not contributing to the development and profit of thebusiness. It can be difficult to admit that buying that equipment was a bad idea, but if it doesn’t work and doesn’t assit grow the company, then it is time to push forward and discover something that does. It is titles adapting and moving ahead.
